Dr. Mateus Aires is a dedicated Brazilian otolaryngologist and accomplished voice surgeon specializing in voice modification for transgender individuals. He completed his Fellowship in Laryngology and Voice at Escola Paulista de Medicina, Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where he also received his PhD in Sciences. Dr. Aires currently serves as an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Pernambuco (UPE) and as Deputy Treasurer and Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Laryngology and Voice (ABLV).
Dr. Aires is a pioneer in the field of voice surgery for transgender patients in Brazil. Dr. Aires has since devoted his career to voice feminization surgery (glottoplasty), voice masculinization surgery (thyroplasty), and Adam’s apple reduction (chondrolaryngoplasty), becoming one of Brazil’s leading experts in these procedures. He has assisted numerous patients and published extensively on these topics in high-impact scientific journals, in addition to contributing to book chapters and presenting at both national and international conferences. Dr. Aires is Head of the Voice Surgery Clinic for Transgender People in the Federal University of Pernambuco. He was recently a co-coordinator of Harmonizing Voice, the first Brazilian course on Voice Transition Surgeries, hosted at UNICAMP in Campinas, São Paulo. His clinic offers a safe, affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ patients seeking care.
