Profile
Dr. Abie H. Mendelsohn, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a distinguished otolaryngologist specializing in laryngology and head and neck surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology, graduating magna cum laude from Yeshiva University in New York, and obtained his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. During medical school, he conducted research on voice and throat disorders, focusing on spasmodic dysphonia. Dr. Mendelsohn completed his residency in Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at UCLA, where he was recognized for his exceptional teaching as Chief Resident. He further honed his expertise with fellowship training in Laryngology at the UCLA Voice Center, followed by advanced training in Trans-Oral Laser Surgery and Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Throughout his career, Dr. Mendelsohn has been at the forefront of minimally invasive surgical techniques for mouth and throat conditions, establishing one of the largest surgical volumes on the West Coast for transoral robotic cancer surgery, sialendoscopy, and hypoglossal nerve stimulator implantation. His research has garnered national and international recognition, particularly in preserving voice function following endoscopic cancer resections. Notably, Dr. Mendelsohn has developed innovative, scarless techniques for tracheal shave procedures, significantly enhancing gender-affirming care for transgender patients by reducing the Adam’s apple without leaving a visible neck scar.
