Professor Petros Karkos was trained for 15 years in many major Ear Nose & Throat Centers across the UK and USA. He completed a Master’s degree in Laryngology at the University of Newcastle in 2006 and a PhD at the University of Thesssalia, Greece. After completion of 2 fellowships which provided him with extensive subspecialty training, he moved to Greece where he is currently a Professor of Otolaryngology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece and Head of the 1st Department of Otolaryngology.
He has authored over 170 publications (H-Index 43) and he has been an Editorial Member for many prestigious journals. He has presented internationally and has won research prizes including the national-prestigious in the UK- Royal Society of Medicine Award(section of laryngology for best research). His interests include Laryngopharyngel Reflux, Vocal fold paralysis, Surgical Alteration of voice, Bloodless Laser Surgery, Endoscopic Ear Surgery and Cochlear Implantation.
In 2014 he developed a variation of surgical technique for treating patients with bilateral vocal fold paralysis(eg after thyroidectomy). This way, patients can breathe normally without a tracheostomy and with a good functional voice. His technique was published in Head Neck Journal(one of the leading journals of his specialty)
